This is St Mary’s Abbey in York. As you can see it’s somewhat in bits (not my fault), but it’s in a rather nice garden and next to a museum. I’m sitting on a bit of a pillar that was part of the Norman abbey.
The bits that are left were built in the 1260s and are “are all that remains of one of the wealthiest and most powerful Benedictine monasteries in England” until that nasty Henry chappie [I think you mean King Henry VIII, Big Ted] decided he didn’t like them.
