Wales revisited
Added on 22 September 2024
Dear Reader,
I've just made another trip to that there Wales place. This time I actually stayed in a cottage in Wales, in a town called Bala for short (or Y Bala for long). “Bala” means “outflow of a lake” in Welsh; the optional “Y” bit means “the”, so the long name means “the outflow of a lake”. It’s prob’ly called this ‘cos there’s a big lake here (called Llyn Tegid – the largest natural lake in Wales) and the River Dee flows out from it. The "Y" bit seems to be used rather randomly.
I visited three new St Mary's churches which I've written about on my Wales page. I would have visited more but there really aren’t that many St Mary’ses in Wales, and some are rather hard to get to. According to Uncle Les, I’ve visited all the St Mary’s churches on this bit of the map (Ordnance Survey, Landranger Sheet 124 for those who are interested in such things). Mind you, Uncle Les has been known to miss some out when he does his research!
Just for something different, I went to the beach at Criccieth and Uncle Les took a photo of me with the sea and the castle in the background. You can see the picture on the right. I didn’t go onto the beach itself ‘cos sand + splendid fur = very bad idea + possible trip in the washing machine!
I've been told that's all the holidays we've got planned for this year (boo!), but that one has been tentatively arranged for sometime next year (hurrah!). They won't tell me where though. And looking at the weather as I put paw to keyboard (it's really rainy here), I think it's prob'ly getting close to hibernation time anyway!
Lots of love,
Big Ted
